Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville: Involved in Proactive State Partnerships and State COVID-19 Testing
Over the past several months, Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville has continued to take a proactive and aggressive approach against the Coronavirus and its related illness, COVID-19. Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville employed a facility-wide testing strategy, testing all residents and staff. This strategy came highly recommended by Signature’s infectious disease physicians, as well as the CDC and other state government partners, as a way to quickly identify the scope of the virus in a facility, knowing that positive persons can be asymptomatic, and then work swiftly to contain any further spread.
Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville is now pleased to announce two additional partners joining us in this fight. Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville welcomes a new collaboration with team members from the United States Public Health Service and State of Florida Incident Management Team, and other local agencies, who in addition to commending us for our current work, continue to support us in our daily efforts. These partnerships are invaluable to us in the fight against this viral enemy, assisting us in our efforts to achieve the best outcomes possible, as well as working to get to the bottom of this virulent pandemic.
As we have stated before, in using a facility-wide testing approach, we know that the first confirmed positive case numbers in a facility may be relatively low, but after all facility-wide testing results come in, the initial numbers may grow extensively, and quickly. Most test results do not come in all at once, but instead, arrive periodically and in “batches.” This is common a misunderstanding among outsiders – there is not an “outbreak” of the virus. Conversely, the numbers are the direct result of an intentional strategy to test everyone and respond in the most proactive manner possible.
Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville has a plan to care for residents, who test positive, in a COVID-19 unit or other designated area, in close consultation with the medical director, our infectious disease physicians on staff, plus our state partners who guide us on best practices. If at any time a physician determines a resident needs a higher level of care, they will be sent out to our local hospital partners. Our healthcare calling is for our facilities to continue to care for all persons, even those with COVID-19, as our communities need us. Facility-wide testing is one of the best ways to find and help care for them. We have already personally notified all residents, their responsible parties, and our staff about this facility-wide testing.
While we understand the fear surrounding COVID-19 and are aware of the misinformation and untruths spread through social media, Signature wants to assure our residents, families, and staff that we continue to take every precaution possible and follow the strict guidelines of the CDC and other controlling government agencies which include: screening all stakeholders and residents daily for symptoms of the virus, utilizing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves and masks, restricting facility visitation in accordance with federal and state guidelines, and using alternate methods of communication for families, including telehealth, social media, and the mailing of cards and letters.
